My research interests include using Data-driven methods like machine learning to augment existing modeling and control techniques. I am also interested in developing robots that work closely with humans, primarily in the medical and rehabilitation fields.
My current work involves evaluating machine learning tools like Support Vector Machines to build on a geometric gait optimization algorithm previously developed by Brian Bittner et al. This algorithm can be used to allow a robot to rapidly learn its local connection while being controlled by an input gait. Estimating the local connection gives the robot new information about its environment and its interactions, whcih allows it to improve performance and generate efficient gaits.
